LANCASTER, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball began their road trip to close out the regular season on Wednesday night, taking on the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College and dropping the fight 63-42.
The Chargers opened up play on an 8-0 run before a layup from sophomore forward
Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) put Cairn (1-18 / 0-13 UNITED EAST) on the scoreboard. The Chargers charged forth on the run again, outscoring the Highlanders 24-5 in the first quarter.
The second frame was all Lancaster Bible (10-11 / 7-6 UNITED EAST) until senior guard
Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire), sophomore forward
Audrey Elisondo (Bethesda, MD / James I O'Neill), and Bright scored layups and Sobrino added a three-pointer, outscoring the Chargers 12-9 in the later portion of the half.
Lancaster Bible made a pair of threes off the jump in the second half as Sobrino had the first four points for the Highlanders. Elisondo and Bright banked in layups as the Chargers continued to push the pace and the lead to 54-24.
The fourth quarter began with five unanswered points for Cairn as Elisondo then hit from deep. Bright continued to work the offensive boards, earning herself another layup as the Highlanders outscored Lancaster Bible 18-9 in the frame, although it was too little and too late to overcome the deficit.
