LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Basketball team looks to continue their postseason run No. 2 Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, February 22
nd, with a 1 p.m. tip-off in Middletown, PA for the Quarterfinals of the United East Men's Basketball Championship.
THE FIELD:
With No. 8 Wilson College (9-7) holding off No. 9 Saint Elizabeth (8-8) to solidify their first-round win and go on the road against the No. 1 Bryn Athyn (15-1). No. 12 Penn College (6-10) pulled off a big upset against No. 5 St. Mary's (Md.) (10-6) on the road, Wednesday night, now looking at another big challenge in No. 4 Keystone College (11-5). No. 6 Notre Dame of Maryland (10-6) also took care of business at home against No. 11 Penn State Berks and will face No. 3 Lancaster Bible College (13-4). The seven-seeded Highlander now hit the road against the No. 2 seed in Penn State Harrisburg after a commanding defeat of No. 10 Valley Forge at home in round one.
OUR TEAM:
Jadon Cepeda (West New York, NJ / William Paterson) was the leading scorer for round one of the United East Men's Championship with (21) points scored followed by graduate forward
Josiah Hardy (Ashburn, VA / Hampden-Sydney) with 18 and graduate guard
Jaylon Simpson (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) who had 15 along with classmate
Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) as the leading rebounder, grabbing 11 boards against Valley Forge (6-10) in round one of the United East Men's Championship. Junior forward
Andre Burrell, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA / Burlington Co. Tech) also played a big role on defense, swatting three shots.
THE MATCHUP:
Cairn will make the trip out to Harrisburg on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off, meeting for the first time since 2008 with the Nittany Lions. Cepeda and the Highlanders look to keep their momentum rolling, winning in the postseason again. Penn State Harrisburg (13-3) is the best in the conference when it comes to defense, only giving up 65.4 points per game, while Cairn is the second best in the conference in scoring, averaging 78.9 points per game, thus should be a great battle of offense vs defense.
