MVB: Adler Records 1,000th Assist as Highlanders Swept

LANGHORNE, PA – On Tuesday, Lancaster Bible College came to Langhorne to play Cairn Men's Volleyball, sweeping the Highlanders in three sets.

The first set of the match, the Chargers started with a lead, which they maintained the duration of the set. Sophomore outside hitters Jesse Stuart (Chattanooga, TN / Chiang Rai International Christian School) and Sam Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School Uijeongbu) led the Highlanders in points here with five kills and an ace. A fantastic achievement for this set, though, was junior setter Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) recording his 1,000th collegiate assist, the first since Ryan Ludvik in 2019. With a score of 17-25, they jumped into the second set.

The Highlanders, in down 5-0, earned their first points through a kill by junior middle hitter Caleb Cabrera (Wallington, NJ / Wallington) and an ace from Adler. Poirier earned their last point with a dominating kill to the ten-foot line. Cairn (0-5 / 0-1 UNITED EAST) dropped the set 14-25.

The third set was the Highlanders' shot at redemption– and they fought. They and Chargers fought through a point-by-point set trying to earn a win. Adler, graduate outside hitter Noah Ruiz Esparza (Levittown, PA / Berean Academy), and junior middle hitter David Larbi (Bensalem, PA / Bensalem) stole the show with their repetitive kills, feeding the momentum. The Chargers eventually pulled ahead (19-23), so Cabrera pulled it back with another kill (21-23). LBC finished the set with two kills, ending the match 21-25.

Larbi defended the next effectively with four block assists while Poirier had eight kills.

Cairn will be back in action at home on Friday, hosting Neumann University at 7 p.m.
