WBB: Highlanders Bested on Senior Day

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball celebrated their senior day on Saturday before being bested by Penn St. Abington, 94-51.

Before tipoff, senior guards Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) and Abi Whitmore (Candor, NY / Little Tree) were honored for their contributions over their playing careers. Pregame festivities also included honoring the game officials as part of Division III Officials Appreciation Week and a brief ceremony for Coaches vs Cancer.

The Nittany Lions won the tip, going on a strong 22-5 run in the first quarter, holding Cairn (1-17 / 0-12 UNITED EAST) scoreless for nine minutes with six sets of three-pointers. Sobrino got the Highlanders on the scoreboard with a three, facing a large deficit heading to the second period.

Sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) opened play in the second with a tip-in layup after grabbing an offensive rebound. Sobrino added two more three-pointers down the stretch as Cairn trailed 48-21 at the half.

The second half would be more of the first with the score getting out of hand. Penn St. Abington (14-6 / 10-2 UNITED EAST) hit another six deep shots in the half to extend the lead past forty points and eventually taking the game 94-51.

Sobrino had 15 on her senior night with five three-pointers and three steals. Bright added 13 points with 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) also had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
