MBB: Simpson's 30 Points Not Enough to Overcome McDaniel

LANGHORNE, PA – Men's Basketball fell to McDaniel on Wednesday night after overcoming a seventeen-point first half deficit, 80-76.

McDaniel (6-2 / CENTENNIAL) opened on a 14-0 run as the Highlanders struggled shooting 0-9 to begin the contest. Graduate guard Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) broke the stall with a pair of free throws as the Green Terror lead grew to seventeen. Senior guard Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) got a layup as freshman guard Brady Murray (Reading, PA / Exeter) hit Cairn's (9-3 / 2-0 UNITED EAST) first three. Baldwin's three eventually cut the advantage to nine. Graduate guard Jaylon Simpson's (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) two layups put the Highlanders in striking distance with sophomore guard Andrew DaCosta (Bordentown, NJ / Bordentown Regional) making a layup and a three with the deficit now at five. McDaniel responded with a three to make the score at the break, 42-34.

Simpson had the first four buckets out of halftime, getting it down to a one-possession game, 46-43. McDaniel then went on a run to push the pace back to twelve. Baldwin hit two shots with a three by graduate guard Chris Hill (Charlotte, NC / St. Augustine's University). DaCosta added two more scores while the Green Terror rallied again back to double digits with under ten minutes to play.
Simpson had the momentum swing for the Highlanders, driving to the pain and throwing down a powerful dunk, leading Cairn to tie the score at 76-all with a minute and a half left.

McDaniel took over again with a layup as the Highlanders failed to answer, going cold (0-4) from the field on their last trip down the court. McDaniel put the lead to four with free throws as Cairn's half-court heave would miss.

Simpson set a new career-high with 30 points, grabbing seven rebounds and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Baldwin was next with fourteen, seven boards as well, and DaCosta also in double digits with twelve.

The Highlanders will break for the holiday before heading up to St. Joseph's – Long Island on December 30.
