MIDDLETOWN, PA—Highlander's season came to an end on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg in the quarterfinals of the United East Championship.
Cairn (5-10-3, 3-4-1 United East) took a hot and early lead with a goal through junior forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) in the 5th minute. Penn State Harrisburg (10-6-2, 7-0-1 United East) and Cairn had rock solid defenses as neither team could get a shot off until the 34th minute when the Nittany Lions converted a penalty to tie the match 1-1. Harrisburg saw the last opportunity of the half in the 45th minute, but the score stayed even as junior goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill High School) was up to the task and made the save.
Freshman forward
Zane Wheeler (Addison, NY / Addison Central) saw the first chance of the second half with a shot in the 55th minute but was unable to convert the chance. The score stayed even at 1-1 throughout the entire second half with many shots by both sides but neither side was able to change the score as the second half ended square with a goal apiece.
Overtime didn't last long as Harrisburg hit fast and hard, getting the game winning goal in the 96th minute to call game.
Miller netted his 14th goal of the season.
