WBB: Abington Hands Highlanders Conference Loss

ABINGTON, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball returned to action in 2025 on Saturday, falling 75-46 at the hands of Penn St. Abington on the road.

Penn St. Abington (8-3 / 4-0 UNITED EAST) took the lead off the jump as senior guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) matched and made a three-point-play through contact. She added a trio of threes as sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) put up a jumper down 19-17 at the end of the period. Out of the break, the Nittany Lions would score twelve unanswered points after jump shots by Sobrino and Bright as they went on to outscore Cairn (1-10 / 0-5 UNITED EAST) 23-6 in the quarter.

In the second half, Penn St. Abington ran ahead with a 25-5 run to put distance between them and the Highlanders. Looking to turn the page in the fourth quarter, junior guard Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian) completed a three-point play, fouled on her jump shot. Sophomore forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) followed suit a few minutes later for six hard-fought points. Ipri would get fouled again, making two of three from the free throw line as Brittin added a three and Sobrino and Bright scored layups to end the game.

Sobrino finished with a game-high 24 points with four three-pointers and five rebounds. Bright added eight points with twelve rebounds and four steals while Brittin contributed seven points with ten boards.

Cairn will matchup with Penn St. Lehigh Valley on Monday, weather permitting, for a non-conference tilt at 6 p.m.
