WBB: Highlanders' Effort Falls Short Against Chargers

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball hosted Lancaster Bible College for their first United East Conference matchup at home in 2025 on Wednesday night, falling to the Chargers by a final score of 64-43.

The Highlanders started the game with intensity as sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) drained two jumpers with a three by junior guard Tatiani Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian) to put Cairn (1-11 / 0-6 UNITED EAST) on the board. Defensively, the Highlanders forced missed shots from the Chargers, allowing senior guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) to connect on a three-pointer, keeping Cairn within striking distance. Lancaster Bible (6-7 / 3-2 UNITED EAST), however, managed to end the quarter ahead, leading 17-12.

Cairn struggled offensively early in the second, but sophomore forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) got to the free throw line and scored four of the Highlanders' seven points in the frame. Turnovers plagued Cairn, and the Chargers capitalized on fast-break opportunities, putting the visitors ahead 31-19 at the half.

Coming out of the break, Brittin continued knocking down free throws as Bright added a tip-in layup and another three by Sobrino. The Highlanders displayed flashes of strong ball movement, but Lancaster Bible's pressure defense forced a series of turnovers. Despite the effort, Cairn fell further behind, ending the third quarter down 48-30.

The Charges came out firing in the final period, playing to a 17-8 run through the ten minutes of play with Sobrino hitting another step-back three-pointer. However, shooting woes persisted, and the Highlanders couldn't string together enough scoring runs to close the gap. The Chargers pulled away late to secure the 64-43 victory.

Kailee Sobrino led the Highlanders' offensive effort, finishing with 14 points with four made threes and four steals.

Brittin added eleven points and six rebounds while Bright contributed ten points with a pair of steals.  Defensively, Cairn fought hard but was unable to overcome 26 turnovers, which Lancaster Bible converted into 26 points.

The Highlanders will look to regroup for Saturday as they host the Bison of Gallaudet at 1 p.m.
