BRYN ATHYN, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball faced the Bryn Athyn College Lions at Asplundh Field House on Tuesday where the Highlanders were defeated 65-41.
The Lions established an early lead, ending the first quarter ahead 17-7 and maintaining their advantage throughout the game as Bryn Athyn (15-5 / 8-3 UNITED EAST) held the Highlanders to single digits in each quarter of the first half. Cairn (1-16 / 0-11 UNITED EAST) got the offense sparked in the second half with senior guard
Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) knocking down two triples late in the game. The offense wasn't able to overcome the first half deficit, dropping the conference game 65-41.
The Highlander offense was led by Sobrino, who scored 14 points, including two three-pointers. Sophomore forward
Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) contributed 11 points and secured 8 rebounds, while classmate
Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) led the team in rebounds with 12.
The Highlanders struggled with shooting efficiency, completing 27.4% of their field goals and 14.3% from beyond the arc. In contrast, the Lions shot 38.7% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. Cairn committed 20 turnovers, which Bryn Athyn capitalized on, scoring 20 points off those errors.
The Highlanders will look to rebound in their next game as host the red-hot Penn St. Abington Nittany Lions for senior day on Saturday.
