WBB: Late Push Propels Valley Forge Over Cairn

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball dropped their conference matchup with Valley Forge on Wednesday, 61-55.

Sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) took the lead for the Highlanders after classmate Laryssa Robinson (Mount Laurel, NJ / Life Center) grabbed an offensive rebound. Robinson scored on the next possession. Valley Forge (4-13 / 3-7 UNITED EAST) took the lead before Robinson, and senior guards Abi Whitmore (Candor, NY / Little Tree) and Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) went back-to-back-to-back from behind the arc to push Cairn (1-14 / 3-7 UNITED EAST) ahead by nine. Sobrino added another shot to keep the lead at nine to end the quarter.

Bright knocked down two jump shots to open the second quarter, Cairn now up by thirteen. Robinson and classmate Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) hit key shots with Sobrino adding another triple to go ahead by 18 points. The Patriots closed the half with nine unanswered points to cut the lead in half at the break.

A trio of threes from Valley Forge would diminish the distance early in the second half, tying the score on occasion with Robinson making a pair of free throws and a layup from Bright headed to the fourth quarter up 43-39. The Patriots took the lead with another set of three deep shots with four minutes and change remaining in the contest. Valley Forge ended the game on a 16-4 run, overcoming a single-point first quarter to take the game 61-55.

Bright led the Highlanders with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sobrino and Robinson each had 13 points as Brittin recorded another double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds along with three steals.
