SCRANTON, PA – Cairn Women's Volleyball took to the road for the first time in the 2024 season, sweeping the Pacers of Marywood University from the Electric City.
Cairn (2-0) opened on a 6-1 run with back-to-back aces from senior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School). When the Highlanders got the serve back, they extended their lead to 10-5 and pushed ahead 21-12 as sophomore outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) tallied five kills in the set. Two errors on Marywood's (2-1) side handed over the first set 25-17.
Set two was much like the first with Conrad getting hot on the attack, pushing Cairn ahead 15-7 with six kills to open the frame with freshman middle blocker
Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) recording her first career kills. Dahn and sophomore middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) were set up with back-to-back kills as the Pacers looked to mount a comeback, 19-14. Conrad and Thorpe each had another kill to close out the set 25-16 in favor of Cairn.
It was senior opposite
Hendryl Peabody's (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) turn in the third set, getting the frame underway with a pair of kills early as the Highlanders once again pushed away 12-4. Marywood came back to within three (13-10) before graduate setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) dropped in a kill and junior defensive specialist
Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) found open space with a pair of aces to double the lead. Conrad struck for two more kills, capping her night off with a third ace as Cairn took the final set 25-13 and completed the sweep.
Conrad led the offense with ten kills, moving to 7
th in program history for career kills, and adding three aces. Dahn was next with eight kills, followed by Thorpe with seven and Peabody with six. Shackelford finished with three and Zepp a pair of kills and an even thirty assists.
The Highlanders will return home on Tuesday, September 10 to face the Nittany Lions of Penn State – Schuylkill at 7 p.m. from the Mason Activity Center.
