WVB: Women's Volleyball Moves to 3-0 After Sweep of Penn State - Schuylkill

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Women's Volleyball team moved to 3-0 on Tuesday, hosting the Nittany Lions of Penn State – Schuylkill and sweeping them for the victory.

Cairn (3-0) opened the match on a roll, holding the Nittany Lions to only five points in the frame led by sophomore middle hitter Madison Delp (York, PA / Clarks Summit University) with five kills. The Highlanders finished the set with 13 unanswered points.

Penn State – Schuylkill fought back in the second set, taking their first lead of the match, 7-6. Senior opposite hitter Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) put up three kills following the outburst to get Cairn back on track and in control, 15-9. As the Nittany Lions tried to claw their way back into the fight, freshman middle blocker Maddie Shackelford (Warrington, PA / Plumstead Christian) had two kills late to help take the second set, 25-14.

The Highlanders opened on a 5-0 run in the third frame behind three straight kills by Delp and back-to-back aces as senior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) had the serve. Despite the efforts of the Nittany Lions, Cairn continued to speed ahead in the race to 25 points with freshman defensive specialist Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter) finding space on the other side for two aces, putting the Highlanders up 18-6. Penn State – Schuylkill made a late push, closing the gap to 20-17. Freshman opposite hitter Addy Benjamin (Laurel, DE / Homeschool) and Dahn pushed the Highlanders over the top for a 25-20 third set victory.

Delp and Dahn each had a game-high nine kills, Dahn adding eleven digs and two aces. Conrad and Peabody each recorded seven kills and a block assist. Benjamin and freshman outside hitter Emma Dekker (Rotterdam, Netherlands / International Community School) each made the collegiate debut with a kill apiece.
