MEDIA, PA – The Cairn Highlanders Women's Volleyball team completed their third-straight sweep, defeating Penn State – Brandywine on the road, 3-0.
Cairn (4-0) was in command of the first set, opening with two aces by senior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) to fuel a 7-3 start, holding the Nittany Lions to only nine points in the frame, taking set one 25-9.
Freshman defensive specialist Liliana Maggazu (Reading, PA / Exeter) started set two with a pair of aces of her own before Penn State – Brandywine (1-5) took their first lead of the night. Cairn went running right back via three kills by Conrad, a kill from senior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy), and block from sophomore outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) to quickly go ahead 17-8. Conrad would have two more kills by the end of the set, winning the frame 25-16.
The third set saw the Highlanders go ahead early once again, 6-2. Magazzu would hit her target on the serve for another pair of aces, leading Cairn to a 12-5 lead as they went on one final run to complete the sweep, 25-10.
Conrad finished with a game-high 8 kills while she and Magazzu each had four aces four eight out of the Highlanders' eleven aces.
Since losing their first set of the season, the Highlanders have now won twelve-straight sets with three straight sweeps, moving to 4-0 on the season as they welcome Washington College (MD) and Centenary to Langhorne on Saturday for a tri-match at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.
