ANNVILLE, PA – The Cairn Men's Soccer squad took on the #18 ranked Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon, dropping their road matchup 3-1.
Lebanon Valley (4-2) took the lead out of the gate just four minutes in followed by a penalty kick goal just over ten minutes later (15') to put some distance to their lead. Cairn (2-2-1) would respond with four shots on goal throughout the remainder of the half but still find themselves down 2-0 at the half.
The Dutchmen scored again in the 53
rd minute, holding Cairn to single shot up to that point. Senior midfielder
Jack Fiacco (Sunderland, MD / Northern HS) put the Highlanders on the board in the 72
nd minute, cutting the lead to two with eighteen minutes to play. Sophomore midfielder
Aaron Babyak (Mechanicsburg, PA / Mechanicsburg) would get off two tries for the goal in response, both coming up short. Fiacco would try his luck again in the closing seconds before the shot was saved and the Dutchmen came away with the victory.
Lebanon Valley outshot Cairn 17-15 although the Highlanders had eleven shots on goal to the Dutchmen's six. Fiacco scored his first goal of the year as the only score for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders will begin a two-game homestand this week, hosting Centenary on Wednesday night before the Devils of FDU-Florham on Saturday evening.
