SB: Cairn Offense Sweeps Bucks County Community College

NEWTOWN, PA – The Cairn University Softball team swept Bucks County Community College of the USCAA on Friday afternoon, 16-8 and 9-0.
 
GAME ONE
Sophomore catcher Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online Academy) led off the game with a double as sophomore infielder Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton) walked and senior centerfielder Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cheroke) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior infielder Abbi Heacock (Media, PA / Delaware County Christian) singled to score Petroro before freshman pitcher Evelyn Johnson (Yardley, PA / Calvary Christian) cleared the bases with a single. Junior infielder Julia Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington) singled and stole second putting two runners into scoring position. Sophomore infielder Abby McIntyre (Galloway, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) singled up the middle, clearing the bases as Cairn (8-24 / 4-10 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) was ahead 6-0. The offense kept rolling as freshman shortstop Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) singled on a bunt and freshman outfielder Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville) walked to score McIntryre. Brittin scored on an error as Bucks County walked the bases loaded and put Cairn ahead 9-0. Shannon and Heacock singled for a run each to close the inning ahead 11-0.
 
In the second, McIntryre walked, scoring on a single from sophomore outfielder Molly Williams (Hammonton, NJ / Pilgrim Academy). Bucks County scored two runs in the bottom half on two hits. Cairn added four run in the third as Heacock singled, Johnson doubled, and McIntryre singled, each picking up an RBI. The Centurions tried to answer with two runs of their own on three hits.
 
Bucks County made it a 16-8 game in the final inning on four hits that proved to not be enough to overcome the Highlander lead.
 
GAME TWO
Cairn opened the second game with five runs in the first, Shannon singling with Petroro working a walk and Wright reaching on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Heacock doubled, clearing the bases for three RBI. McIntyre doubled to left field to score Heacock as Bruestle beat out a bunt single, moving McIntryre into scoring position and Brittin scoring her on a single.
 
Hecock opened up the third with another double, stealing third and scoring as Johnson singled through the right side. The Highlanders would get into mercy rule territory in the fifth, scoring three more as Petroro singled to score Williams and Wright reached on an error scoring two as Cairn held the Centurions scoreless through the five inning bout.
 
Johnson got the complete game win in game one with four strikeouts and throwing 3.1 scoreless innings in game two with three strikeouts. On the day, Heacock had five hits with two doubles, six RBI, and four runs scored. Shannon recorded four hits, four runs, and an RBI with a double.
 
The Highlanders will face Clarks Summit on Saturday for Senior Day and their season finale at home, first pitch set for 1 p.m.
