LA PLUME, PA – The Cairn University Softball team made the trip up to Keystone College on Saturday, facing the Giants in Skye Division play and falling in both games, 9-0 and 9-7.
GAME ONE
Freshman pitcher
Evelyn Johnson (Yardley, PA / Calvary Christian) reached base on a one-out single in the second inning but couldn't get anything started offensively. In the third, freshman infielder
Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) worked a lead-off walk and was followed by sophomore infielder
Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton) with a two-out single to get two runners on but Cairn (6-24 / 4-10 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) failed to score. The Highlanders played Keystone (10-12 / 8-4 UNITED EAST SKYE DIVISION) close for the first half of the game before the Giants scored five in the fourth and added four more in the sixth.
GAME TWO
Needing to get something started, sophomore catcher
Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online Academy), Wright, and senior center fielder
Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) led off game two with walks to load the bases immediately. Johnson singled up the middle scoring a pair and moving Shannon to third. Sophomore infielder
Abby McIntyre (Galloway, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) scored Shannon with a sacrifice fly to give Cairn a 3-0 lead.
Keystone scratched across an unearned run in the bottom half making it 3-1 and took the lead in the second on three straight hits, 5-3. The Giants added two more in the third on three hits and an error to go up 7-3.
McIntyre and junior outfielder
Jolene Zefferi (Bristol, PA / Bristol) walked to put two runners on followed by freshman outfielder
Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville) who singled up the middle to load the bases. Petroro came up with a timely hit to score two with a single down the left field line, cutting the deficit to 7-5. Keystone scored an inside the park home run to right field to get one run right back in the fifth and one more in the sixth as time ran out for another Highlander comeback.
NOTABLES
Johnson recorded four hits in the series, raising her batting average to .325 while Petroro, Quince, and Wright each had a hit on the day.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Highlanders make the short trip to Bucks County Community College on Friday before closing the regular season and conference play on Saturday at home against Clarks Summit for Senior Day.
