LANGHORNE, PA – the Cairn Men's & Women's Tennis teams hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks on Thursday at McCurdy Tennis Facility as women's squad won the match 9-0 and the men picking up another conference victory, 7-2.
WOMEN'S TENNIS
In doubles play, the Highlanders showed their dominant performance throughout the match. Junior
Ersy Neal (Wayne, PA / Delaware County Christian School) and freshman
Reagan Griffith (Doylestown, PA / Central Bucks East) won the top matchup 8-0. Senior
Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, VA / Veritas School) and freshman
Laney Bouton (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ / Point Pleasent Beach High School) won No. 2 doubles, 8-1. To end the sweep in doubles, seniors
Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, PA / Cocalico High School) and
Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, PA / Cocalico High School) won 8-1.
In singles play the Highlanders had the hot hand against the Nittany Lions by winning all matches. Griffith won No.1 in two sets (6-0, 6-1). Neal won both sets at No. 2 by shutting out her opponent not 6-0 in both sets. Campbell-Robertson won No. 3 in two sets (6-2, 6-0) while Horning and Bouton won No. 4 and 5, all 6-0. Tatiana Ipri (Mullica, NJ / Gloucester County Christian School) won No. 6, 6-1 and 7-5.
Cairn Women's Tennis moves to 6-1 on the season on their way to the United East Women's Tennis Championship tournament.
MEN'S TENNIS
In doubles play, the Highlanders were able pull off a sweep against the Nittany Lions, led by senior
Michael Wilson (New Hope, PA/ New Hope-Solebury) and graduate student
Timothy Robinson Jr. (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) who started the sweep with an 8-3 score in the first match of doubles. Senior
Joel Kim (Harrington Park, NJ / Black Forest Academy) and sophomore
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian) held off the Lions in a tight match 8-6 in No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, the duo of sophomore
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Technical) and freshman
Joshua Nacy (Puebla, Mexico / Michigan Connections Academy) finished up doubles play with an 8-0 shutout.
In singles play Penn State Berks stared off winning 1 & 2 singles. The Highlanders bounced back and were able to win the rest of the singles matches. In no.3, Kim won the last two sets 6-4 and 6-3 as Stange won in the next matchup in 2 sets, with both a score of 6-2. Nacy and Gossel swept their Nittany Lion opponents 6-0 to finish the match.
Cairn Men's Tennis improves to 3-2 in conference play as they prepare for Arcadia University on Friday, Penn College on Saturday for Senior Day and Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday in pursuit of a postseason appearance.
