LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Men's Lacrosse team hosted Bryn Athyn College for their final regular season home contest on Saturday evening, taking a 10-8 victory over the Lions.
Senior attacker
Jonathan Balsamo (Long Island, NY / Eastport South Manor) got things started with his 100
th career goal five minutes into the game, adding another a few moments later, assisted by
Ethan Meiers (Plainsboro, NJ /West Windsor Plainsboro South), to go ahead 2-0. Bryn Athyn (2-5 / 0-3 UNITED EAST) tied the game with senior midfielder
Chaz Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy) scoring in the closing seconds of the first quarter to give Cairn (3-8 / 1-3 UNITED EAST) a 3-2 lead.
In the second, the Lions opened with a pair of goals to swing things their way as Balsamo struck again for his third goal of the night and then assisted sophomore attacker
Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian). Bryn Athyn made their turn at a last second shot as the half closed all knotted up at 5-5.
Cairn was the first to score in the third as Cotton put the Highlanders ahead with the back and forth continuing with another Lions goal. Balsamo scored number four, taking the lead back before Bryn Athyn tied with just under five minutes to play in the quarter. Balsamo answered right back on the next possession.
Bryn Athyn had their final say opening the fourth quarter as Balsamo and sophomore
Ole Pertet Nyilinkindi (New York, NY / Grimsley HS) scored back to back to secure a 10-8 lead which would remain for the final sore.
Balsamo totaled six goals and one assist for seven points. Cotton had two goals and three assists for five points as Nyilinkindi and Heffler each scored one time. Sophomore face off/midfielder
Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy) provided two assists as he went 15-19 in face offs on the night, picking up a career-high matching 15 ground balls.
The Highlanders will face the Rosemont Ravens on the road April 20 in their regular season finale as they push on to contend for the United East Men's Lacrosse Championship.
