LANCASTER, PA – The Cairn University Softball team headed west to face Volt Division foe, Lancaster Bible College for a crossover doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Highlanders were shutout in both games, 2-0 and then 4-0.
In game one, Lancaster Bible (3-6) got on the board with a bases-clearing triple in the first inning, scoring two runs. Cairn (1-7) looked to answer but could not get a baserunner past first base. Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee High School) threw out the runner at the plate to keep the game at 2-0. The Highlanders had a runner in scoring position in the final three innings put couldn't push a run in. Sophomore catcher
Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online Academy) led the offense with two hits.
Freshman pitcher
Evelyn Johnson (Yardley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) pitched 6.0 innings, taking the loss despite striking out 11 batters, the third most in a single-game behind Krista Marks (Earl) who leads the program with 13 strikeouts against Notre Dame (MD) and Rosemont in 2018 and 12 strikeouts against Clarks Summit in 2021.
Game two saw the Chargers take the lead in the second inning, scoring a pair of runs to go up 2-0. They followed up in the third with two more coming on a back-to-back doubles before the Highlanders worked out of the inning with a double play. Cairn got runners in scoring position, crafting an answer but could not bring them across to score. Johnson would pick up two more strikeouts on the day from game two. Sophomore pitcher

The Highlanders host Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday for their home opener on the Softball Diamond of the Stillman Athletic Complex at 12 & 2 p.m. EDT.
