SB: Softball Swept by Penn St. Schuylkill

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Softball team hosted the Nittany Lions of Penn State – Schuylkill for a non-conference doubleheader, dropping both games 6-0 and 7-2.

In game one, freshman shortstop Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) had the lone hit for the Highlanders as Cairn (1-9) was shutout 6-0 in seven innings. Freshman pitcher Evelyn Johnson (Yardley, PA / Calvary Christian) struck out five in seven innings of work.

In game two, Penn State – Schuylkill (7-3) got things started in the third with an RBI single to take the lead, adding two more on an error. The Nittany Lions pushed on in the sixth with a two-run homer and an infield single to go up 7-0. Johnson singled through the right side to start the seventh with sophomore first baseman Abby McIntyre joining her on base with a walk. Sophomore outfielder Molly Williams (Hammonton, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) loaded the bases on a single through the right side. Senior centerfielder Adriana Shannon (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) drove in two runs with a double, making it a 7-2 game. That would be all for the Highlander offense as the Nittany Lions took game two, 7-2.

The Highlanders begin a long road stretch starting on Wednesday when they head to Gwynedd Mercy for a 3/5 p.m. doubleheader followed by six road games before they host Bucks County Community College on Tuesday, April 2 at 3/5 p.m.
