WBB: Highlanders Soar Past Ravens, 102-66

ROSEMONT, PA – The Cairn University Women's Basketball team squared up with Rosemont on the road Saturday afternoon as the handedly defeated the Ravens for the second time this season, 102-66.

Freshman guard Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville) kicked off the game with a spot up three, which would set the tone for the afternoon starting a 16-2 run. Quince added a pair of jump shots and another triple on the scoring spree. Rosemont (3-18 / 2-12 United East Skye Division) answered back with three straight buckets to end the first half trailing 22-16.

Freshman forward Amalia Vamvakitis (Waterford, MI / Mount Dora Christian Academy) assisted freshman forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) for a layup via a steal from Quince, Vamvakitis then getting her own score on a fast break layup to get the lead back up to ten. The third quarter was tightly contested through the first seven minutes. Cairn (13-7 / 8-5 United East Skye Division) outscored the Ravens 9-4 in the closing minutes of the half behind freshman guard Makayla Raines (Jonesboro, GA / St. Mary's Academy), dropping a three with a pair of free throws to give the Highlanders a 48-33 lead into the break.

Junior forward Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood) got the scoring started in the second half with a layup, Rosemont then put Quince on the free throw line as she knocked down both. Raines added a layup and assisted Bright in the paint before knocking down a set of free throws and a jumper to put the Highlanders up twenty points. Hinson and Raines worked together to work the lead up to 73-46, a twenty-seven point lead, entering the fourth quarter.

Hinson managed a pair of jumpers before Rosemont went on a 12-2 run, but it wasn't enough as the Highlander offense soared back with Raines splashing another three, Bright nailing a jumper, assisted by freshman guard T'miya Bryant (Raleigh, NC / South Garner High School) who had a jumper earlier. Raines made another layup followed by burying a three in tandem with Quince. Raines broke the 100-point mark with a layup as Cairn took the game 102-66.

Raines came close to tying her single-game record, scoring 42 on Saturday afternoon shooting 3-7 from deep, adding 6 assists and 6 steals. Quince had 17 points, also shooting 3-7 from three. Hinson provided 16 points while Bright recorded her first career double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. In two matchups, the Highlanders have outscored the Ravens 212-103 this season.
