LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn Men's Basketball team hosted the rival Wilson College Phoenix at home on Saturday afternoon for senior day where they dropped the rematch 80-74.
Prior to the tip off, Head Coach
Jason O'Connell and Cairn Men's Basketball honored their five graduating seniors with their families and friends for their accomplishments and important roles they've played in their careers at Cairn. Senior guards
Aytor Alberto (Willemstad, Curaçao / Clarks Summit University),
James Patterson (Marlton, NJ / Collingswood High School), fifth year guard
Josh Forker (Telford, PA / Faith Christian Academy), and senior forwards
Derian Bradford &
Owen Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) all got the nod for the start on Saturday as Cairn (13-11 / 7-8 United East Skye Division) got a four point lead off the tip. Wilson (14-10 / 10-2 United East Skye Division) came back to tie the game 16-16 before taking the lead and holding it with a pair of threes. Forker and sophomore
Moses Ilodigwe (Wilmington, DE / Lycoming College) had their own set of threes to tie the game again. Junior guard
Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) hit from three point range to get within a point of the lead until the Phoenix scored five unanswered points to end the half with a 35-29 lead.
Wilson opened the second half on an 11-3, interrupted by a three from Alberto.
Derian Bradford went for three straight buckets to cut the Phoenix lead to seven. Freshman guard
Jake Zawacki (Kenilworth, NJ / David Brearly) and Ilodigwe hit from deep to keep Cairn within range. Alberto fired away again from three followed by two more from Ilodigwe to take the lead and get the Highlanders up by six points. Wilson began their comeback with four minutes to play, scoring quickly and making their free throws.
Derian Bradford and Ilodigwe would knock down a jump shot each down the stretch to make the lead one possession, but couldn't get the necessary stop or missed Wilson free throw to get an open look for the win. The Highlanders dropped their senior day matchup 80-74.
Derian Bradford led the way with 22 points while Alberto added 18 with a pair of threes. Ilodigwe had a good shooting night once again with 17 points on 5-7 shooting from three point land, now averaging 4 triples in his last 5 games. Junior guard
Christian Rivera (Cayey, Puerto Rico / Central Bucks East) provided 10 assists.
The Highlanders close out the regular season at home Tuesday as they host the Bryn Athyn College Lions at 7 p.m.
