LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Women's Basketball held their final faceoff of 2024 with Cedar Crest on Tuesday night, dropping their conference battle 72-57.
Cairn (1-9 / 0-4 UNITED EAST) scored first as sophomore forward
Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) grabbed an offensive board and tipped it in. The Falcons responded back with quick scores, getting ahead 7-4. Sophomore forward
Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) grabbed an offensive rebound and returned fire with a layup as senior guard
Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) hit a three to tie the game. Bright added another layup to take the lead right after. Cedar Crest (2-4 / 1-3 UNITED EAST) grabbed the lead back immediately as the first quarter finished with them ahead 15-11.
Bright started the second quarter with a jump shot as junior guard
Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian) made a three. Bright scored the next four points for the Highlanders with Brittin adding a free throw as they tried to stay within striking distance of the lead. The Falcons would net the final bucket of the half, up 31-25.
Out of the break, Cedar Crest opened on a 10-2 run as Bright then had to go back to work with two more jump shots. Sobrino grabbed a steal, taking it the distance on the fast break for a layup then splashing a jump shot. Bright made another shot to cut the lead to single digits before Cedar Crest made two free throws as they were fouled at the horn.
With an early score, the Falcons were ahead by fifteen in the fourth quarter with Brittin and Sobrino each making a pair of free throws and another three by Ipri to help cut the lead to nine. Ipri fired away once again from deep with success, making some ground. Both squads traded fouls late in the bonus as it was a war by free throws down to the wire, but Cedar Crest would come out on top, 72-57.
Four Highlanders were in double-digits in scoring with Bright finishing at an even twenty points with nine rebounds. Ipri had thirteen with three triples on 3-4 shooting. Sobrino and Brittin each had 12 with the latter recording her second double-double of the year adding 12 boards, eight of which were on the offensive glass.
Cairn will regroup over the holiday, preparing for their first matchup of the new year with Penn St. Abington on January 4.
