BALTIMORE, MD – Cairn Men's Basketball made the journey to UMBC in a Division I crossover exhibition, dropping the matchup 103-57 on Tuesday evening.
UMBC (7-5 / America East) won the tip, taking a 7-0 lead as the Highlanders missed a pair of threes, adjusting to the road environment as graduate guard

Josiah Hardy (Ashburn, VA / Hampden-Sydney) sank a pair of jumpers in response with fifth year forward
Isaiah Coleman (Fontana, CA / Clarks Summit University) splashing a three to cut the Retriever lead to one. UMBC made a pair of layups their next two trips down the floor with graduate guard
Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) answering back with a triple. Baldwin would try for another three on Cairn's (6-3 / 3-0 UNITED EAST) next possession, getting fouled on the unsuccessful try, down 17-12 at the first media timeout.
Baldwin made two of three at the line after the break with UMBC hitting from deep again. Senior guard
Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) made a deep shot, cutting the lead to four as UMBC came back with another pair of layups. Junior forward
Andre Burrell, Jr. (Philadelphia, PA / Burlington Co. Institute of Technology) got in the scoring column with a layup and followed with a made three. The Retrievers came down the court with a layup and free throw before Hardy hit from three, bringing the lead back down to five. UMBC was fouled on the next possession, hitting both free throws, a layup, and triple to answer. Hardy got fouled on a turnaround jump shot, making both free throws but the Retrievers buried a three and finished through contact with the free throw extending the lead to 18 at the final media timeout. UMBC would finish the half with five unanswered points after the break with Cairn down 50-27 at the half.
Out of the half, Coleman banked in two driving layups, but UMBC scored two three-point plays and a layup, scoring through contact. Baldwin finished at the rim with UMBC going on a 9-2 run as Coleman got to the cup. The Retrievers scored a three which was equalized by a three from Hardy on the next possession. UMBC had their turn again with a three heading into a second half media timeout up 77-40 on the Highlanders. Desir and Hardy each made a pull-up jumper. Senior guard
Derrick Dolan (Berlin, NJ / Conwell-Egan) tried to re-spark the offense with a pull-up three as UMBC ran the floor for a dunk and triple in response. Coleman added two deep threes to eclipse the 50-point mark for Cairn. Dolan then got fouled on the drive, splitting a pair of free throws as Coleman then struck again from three. UMBC would continue to run away, finishing this one off 103-57.
Coleman recorded a team-high 20 points with four made threes and nine rebounds. Hardy was a close second, scoring 14. Cairn shot an even 30% from the field (21-70) and 26.3% from three-point range (10-38).
The Highlander will matchup with another Division I squad in Maryland Eastern Shore Monday, on the road at 7 p.m.
