WVB: Highlanders Bring Out the Brooms Again at Penn State Brandywine

MEDIA, PA - The Cairn Women's Volleyball team brought out the brooms against Penn State Brandywine once again, sweeping the Nittany Lions, this time in conference play, 3-0.

Cairn (15-5 / 7-2 UNITED EAST) got off to a hot start, leading 10-3, as senior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) managed three kills. Senior opposite Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) and sophomore middle Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) each added two kills down the stretch as the Highlanders powered through the first set, 25-11.

Conrad would attack with three more kills early in the second before Penn State Brandywine (6-16 / 3-6 UNITED EAST) took brief control, 12-11 as a solo block and kill from Thorpe tried to swing it back. The Nittany Lions fought back to go ahead 17-16 before two aces by junior defensive specialist Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackwanna College). The Highlander defense would force critical errors on the attacking Nittany Lions as they took the second set by a smaller margin, 25-18.

After the Nittany Lions took control 4-1 in the third frame, Cairn would fire off a barrage of attacked, spotlighted by two kills from sophomore outside hitter Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy). The Highlanders would go running ahead behind the serve of Hollenbeck who added four more aces to her night, now ahead 20-8. Peabody would cap off the night with the Highlanders' final kill, taking the third set, 25-11.

Conrad led the way with thirteen kills on .407% hitting followed by Thorpe and Peabody with seven kills apiece, the former with a pair of solo blocks. Hollenbeck added six aces, a career-high.

The Highlanders will host Lancaster Bible College on Thursday night for senior night in their regular season finale at 7 p.m.
