LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Basketball team hosted the Skye Division rival, Rosemont College on Thursday night, soaring past the Ravens 80-58.
Cairn (9-5 / 4-2 United East Skye Division) opened the action on a senior forward
Owen Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) layup followed by a dunk from senior guard
Aytor Alberto (Willemstad, Curraçao / Clarks Summit University) to set the tone. Rosemont (2-12 / 1-4 United East Skye Division) would have a slow response as the Highlander lead pressed to 10 points. As the Ravens crafted a comeback, junior guard
Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) and Alberto would both strike from three point land to keep the lead out of reach. Junior forward
Chris Eelman (North Haledon, NJ / Hawthorne Christian Academy) sank a pair of free throws late in the first half before Rosemont would score seven unanswered points to close the period.
The Ravens added 5 quick points out of the break to tie the game for the first time since 8-8 at the fifteen-minute mark in the first half. Alberto led the Highlander response with a three, layup, and then a monster alley-oop dunk, assisted by junior guard
Christian Rivera (Cayey, Puerto Rico / Central Bucks East).
He and Desir would tag-team on a pair of three pointer again to get the Cairn lead up to 15 as part of a 23-5 run for the Highlanders. The Highlanders wouldn't look back, holding the Ravens scoreless in the final 3 minutes of the contest and taking the game 80-58.
Alberto was the director of the offensive show, scoring 31 points with a pair of dunks and 6-three pointers. Senior forward
Derian Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) had a quiet 21 points, shooting 50% on the night while dishing out 6 assists and swiping three steals.
Owen Bradford went a perfect 4-4 from the field, adding 9 points. Rivera contributed 5 points and 5 assists in the victory. Cairn made the most on points off of turnovers, turning 19 Rosemont turnovers into 24 points, along with 18 fast break points, and a team effort with 14 points off the bench.
Cairn Men's Basketball takes aim at Saint Elizabeth University who travels to Langhorne on Saturday, playing in the back end of the doubleheader tipping off at 3 p.m.
