Men's Basketball: Alberto Leads Highlanders Soaring Past Ravens

LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Basketball team hosted the Skye Division rival, Rosemont College on Thursday night, soaring past the Ravens 80-58.

Cairn (9-5 / 4-2 United East Skye Division) opened the action on a senior forward Owen Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) layup followed by a dunk from senior guard Aytor Alberto (Willemstad, Curraçao / Clarks Summit University) to set the tone. Rosemont (2-12 / 1-4 United East Skye Division) would have a slow response as the Highlander lead pressed to 10 points. As the Ravens crafted a comeback, junior guard Jonathan Desir (Feasterville, PA / Neshaminy) and Alberto would both strike from three point land to keep the lead out of reach. Junior forward Chris Eelman (North Haledon, NJ / Hawthorne Christian Academy) sank a pair of free throws late in the first half before Rosemont would score seven unanswered points to close the period.

The Ravens added 5 quick points out of the break to tie the game for the first time since 8-8 at the fifteen-minute mark in the first half. Alberto led the Highlander response with a three, layup, and then a monster alley-oop dunk, assisted by junior guard Christian Rivera (Cayey, Puerto Rico / Central Bucks East).

He and Desir would tag-team on a pair of three pointer again to get the Cairn lead up to 15 as part of a 23-5 run for the Highlanders. The Highlanders wouldn't look back, holding the Ravens scoreless in the final 3 minutes of the contest and taking the game 80-58.

Alberto was the director of the offensive show, scoring 31 points with a pair of dunks and 6-three pointers. Senior forward Derian Bradford (Lansdale, PA / University of Valley Forge) had a quiet 21 points, shooting 50% on the night while dishing out 6 assists and swiping three steals. Owen Bradford went a perfect 4-4 from the field, adding 9 points. Rivera contributed 5 points and 5 assists in the victory. Cairn made the most on points off of turnovers, turning 19 Rosemont turnovers into 24 points, along with 18 fast break points, and a team effort with 14 points off the bench.
