LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team faced Bryn Mawr College in their home opener Wednesday night, sweeping the Owls 3-0.
Cairn (2-0) looked to defend their home court and continue building on their season opening win from last week as they began the night on a 6-1 run, led by back-to-back kills by junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bagkok, Thailand / International Community School). Bryn Mawr (0-2) tried to find momentum and create a rally but the Highlanders continued to push their lead as far as ten points as Cairn closed out the set 25-13.
The Highlanders found themselves in a closer battle to begin the second set as the Owls evened the score more than a few times as the final points approached. Kills by freshman middle
Rachael Banks (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School) and outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) put Cairn on a rally as another Conrad kill put set the Highlanders up for set point in the second. Cairn took the second set 25-18.Â
Cairn would push the pace again to start the third set but the Owls found momentum to begin a rally, evening things up at 11-11. A timeout would pause the Bryn Mawr momentum as the Highlanders constructed yet another lead. The Owls would rally one last time before ultimately falling 25-22 to close the match.
Conrad had a team-high seven kills followed by junior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) who had six. Senior setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) provided 21 assists to the effort.
The Highlanders are back in action this weekend, hosting Centenary (NJ) and Penn State Lehigh Valley Saturday for a Tri-Match inside the Mason Activity Center. More details are available at cairnhighlanders.com.
