GLENSIDE, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team opened up their road schedule Wednesday afternoon taking on Arcadia University, taking the match 2-1 for their first victory of the season.
Arcadia (0-2-1) got on the board early in the first half, setting the pace in the 7th minute. Cairn (1-1-1) had an almost immediate answer as junior midfielder
Caleb Rudloff (Quakertown, PA / Geneva College) found the back of the net less than five minutes later (12th) off an assisted by junior midfielder
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township). The Highlanders would tally three more shots in the half, two from freshman forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) and another by junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) as the half came to a close all square at 1-1. The second half would bring a different tone than the first, as both squads only managed a shot each through the first 30 minutes of the half. Beers would be the deciding factor in the 78th minute, scoring off of a loose ball following a Highlander corner kick. The Knights wouldn't manage a single shot for the remainder of the half as Cairn held on for their first victory of the season.
"It was an excellent team effort today," remarked Head Coach
Luke Gibson,
"Our bench was outstanding and collectively it was our best game to date."
Arcadia held the advantage on shots (11-9) as Cairn would hold the margin on shots on goal (5-4). Brittain led the Highlander in shots with three followed by Miller and Beers with two apiece. Rudloff and junior midfielder
Chase Segool (Aston Twp, PA / Sun Valley) each attempted a shot as well. Freshman goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill HS) would collect three saves in 90 minutes of work.
Cairn Men's Soccer continues their road stint on Saturday when they head to Ramapo College for another non-conference tilt at 1 p.m.
