IMMACULATA, PA - The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team closed this week's road trip with a stop in Immaculata, PA, taking on Immaculata University, ultimately falling to the Mighty Macs 3-1 on Thursday night.
Things looked promising for Cairn (3-5) early as they went ahead 14-9 thanks to three kills from junior opposite hitter
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy). Immaculata (8-2) would look to mount a comeback but the Highlander attack held them off as Cairn took set one, 25-22, as Peabody finished with 7 kills in the frame. Set two saw more back-and-forth action until the Mighty Macs built up a 22-14 lead on four straight service aces. Immaculata would take set two, 25-19. The third set featured more of the same as the Mighty Macs edged out the Highlanders to take the set 25-20, giving Immaculata a 2-1 lead heading to set four. The Immaculata offense came out strong to start the frame, going on a 5-1 run. Cairn's offense got to work, brining the deficit to within a single point (11-10) and then tied things up at 17 apiece. Immaculata would ultimately take set four 25-20 as the Highlanders fell 3-1.
The Cairn offense was once again let by Peabody and junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) who each had a team-high 12 kills, Conrad also added a block and 16 digs. Senior setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) finished with an even 30 assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Abigail Di Sipio (East Earl, PA / Homeschool) provided five kills and a block of her own.
Cairn Women's Volleyball begins a brief home stand, taking on Penn State Schuylkill on Friday night at 7 p.m.
