LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team finished off their week of action taking on Penn State Schuylkill on Friday night in Langhorne, sweeping the Nittany Lions 3-0.
The Cairn (4-5) offense got rolling early as junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) and sophomore defensive specialist
Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) would each have a pair of back-to-back aces as the Highlander lead climbed to 14-4. Penn State Schuylkill (1-5) would fail to kickstart their offense as Cairn held them to only points in the set, taking set one 25-9. Set 2 saw a similar trend with the Highlander front line pounding kills onto the Nittany Lions side, including 6 kills in the frame from Conrad. The Highlanders took set 2, 25-5. Down 2-0, the Nittany Lions looked to bring the fight back to the Highlanders as Cairn found themselves down for the first time all night 5-3, until the Highlanders came back to create a 20-13. Madison Searls (Seaford, DE / Salisbury Christian School) recorded the final kill to take Set 3, and the match for the Highlanders, 25-14.
Conrad led the offense with a match-high 11 kills followed by junior opposite hitter
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) with 8 and freshman middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) smashed a career-high 7 kills with a .375 hitting %. Senior setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) fuelded the offense with 32 assists.
The Highlanders continue their home stand on Tuesday taking on Penn State Brandywine at 7 p.m. inside the Mason Activity Center.
