Women's Volleyball: Highlanders Fall to Gophers 3-0

LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team hosted the Gophers of Goucher College on Tuesday night, falling 3-0.

Goucher (2-7) began the first set with pace, going up 14-5 on the Highlanders early. Junior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) looked to spark the offense with two kills late in the set, but Cairn (3-4) was unable to stop the Gopher attack, closing the set 25-10. The second set showed promise, as the Highlanders went ahead 11-5. The Goucher offense crafted a response, tying the set 14-14 before moving ahead 23-16, ultimately taking set two 25-18. Set 3 went back-and-forth with the early points, sophomore defensive specialist Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) would serve up back-to-back aces before the Gophers went ahead 14-7. Cairn made a late push at the end with kills by freshman middle blocker Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent), junior opposite hitter Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy), and Conrad, but were unable to overcome the defecit, falling in the final set by a close margin of 25-21.

Conrad finished with six kills followed by Thorpe and Peabody with five. Thorpe also had two blocks in her defense of the net. Senior setter Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) collected 15 assists on the night.
