NEW BRITAIN, PA - The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team hit the road Tuesday night, taking on the Aggies of Delaware Valley University and suffering a 3-1 defeat in straight sets.
Delaware Valley (3-3) found momentum in the first set, taking a 6-3 lead. Freshman outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) made two kills to bring the Highlanders back into the fight, taking the lead 8-6. The set would go back and forth before the Aggies went on another run, stretching the lead to 17-12. Another kill by Dahn along with four kills late in the set by junior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) would bring Cairn all the way back to take set one by a score of 25-22. Delaware Valley would come out strong in the second set and never look back taking set two to even things up 25-18. The Highlanders took the lead back beginning in the third set with another kill by Peabody but the Aggies fought back and gained momentum taking the third set 25-16. Set 4 would look much like the second as DelVal took the match in the set 25-20.
Senior setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) would tally a season-high 28 assists. Peabody led the offense with 12 kills followed by Dahn with 11 and junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) with 5 as she scooped up 20 digs. Freshman
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tenent) defended the net with two solo blocks and an assisted block with Dahn.
The Highlander Women's Volleyball squad hits the road again on Thursday, heading to Reading, PA to take on Albright at 7 p.m.
