Baseball: Highlanders Weather the Storm against Centenary (NJ) in Eighth-Straight Victory

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University baseball team defeated non-conference adversary Centenary University (NJ) by a score of 7-4 inside the Stillman Complex on Wednesday evening, marking their eighth-straight victory. The contest was ruled final after seven innings of play due to heavy rain.

Cairn (19-17, 10-5 CSAC) jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, capped off by RBI knocks by sophomore Tyler Harris (Oxford, PA / Oxford Area) and senior Tyler Fox (Boyertown, PA / West-Mont Christian Academy). Centenary (13-21, 5-10 Atlantic East) capitalized on two Highlander errors in the top of the third to tie the game at three-all, before Cairn answered in the bottom half with back-to-back RBI doubles by sophomore Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) and junior Jake Meisel (Newark, DE / Rosemont College) to take a 5-3 lead. The Cyclones cut the deficit to one after plating a run in the fourth inning, but Meisel struck twice in the fifth and seventh innings with matching RBI singles to give Cairn a 7-4 lead before the game was ruled final after seven frame due to rain,

Meisel led the offensive output with a four-for-four day at the plate with three RBIs, followed by Warr with a three-for-three effort. Warr has now gone 13 consecutive plate appearances without being retired, and is nine-for-nine over his last three games. Fox and sophomore Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College) each added a pair of hits, including two doubles for Jackson. Freshman Nick Benson (Philadelphia, PA / Father Judge) moved to 3-1 on the mound after going four innings, scattering four hits, four runs (one earned) and striking out a pair. Classmate Evan Hughes (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) earned his first career save after closing out the final three innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits.

The Highlanders will be back on the field tomorrow when they make a highly anticipated trip to Bethlehem to take on NCAA Division I adversary Lehigh University at 3:30 p.m.
