Men’s Volleyball: Highlanders Sweep Wilson in Regular Season Finale, Lock Up No. 2 Seed in Next Week’s CSAC Tournament

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team earned their fifth-straight sweep with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 26-24) victory on the road over conference foe Wilson College in their regular season finale on Thursday evening. With the win, Cairn clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship Tournament, and will host the conference semifinals.
 
Cairn (12-8, 5-1 CSAC) came out firing on all cylinders in set one, rocketing out to a 17-5 lead and finishing off Wilson (8-13, 3-2 CSAC) in the first frame with a commanding 25-10 victory. In set two, Cairn held a narrow 8-7 lead at the onset, before rattling off a six-point swing, highlighted by a pair of kills by senior Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) and junior Joe Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / Holden Christian Academy). Leading 17-12 at the midway point, the Highlanders made use of another run, this time a five-point rally to claim a 25-14 victory and take a 2-0 match lead. Wilson gave Cairn everything it could handle in set three, and led 21-19 near the end of the set. Cairn battled back to knot the contest up at 24-all, and capped off the sweep with the next two points, ending the match off a kill by freshman Moses Gamble (Rocklin, CA / Rocklin).
 
Cairn was led offensively by Gamble with a team-high 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Horning and Poirier followed with seven kills a-pop, and senior Joshua Hoagland (Chaing Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International Christian) added six kills. Senior Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) dished out a match-high 27 assists, while classmate Josh Moyer (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) scooped up a team-high seven digs. Senior Cameron Cronk (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) paced the service line with a team-high four aces to go along with five kills.
 
As mentioned, the Highlanders earned the No. 2 seed in next week's CSAC Championship Tournament, and will host the conference semifinals on Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. against an opponent TBA.
