MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Cairn University softball team dropped both games of their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader at Saint Elizabeth University on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-0 in game one before dropping an 8-0 decision in the nightcap.
In game one, Saint Elizabeth (21-10, 11-3 CSAC) struck first and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cairn (12-18, 6-8 CSAC) looked to tie the game in the top of the second off of a single by sophomore
Julia Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington), but SEU cut down the runner trying to score to keep the one-run lead. The Eagles held their one-run advantage until the fifth frame, where they plated three runs on four consecutive hits to start the inning and took a 4-0 lead, a lead they held for the remainder of game one.
Senior
Jenna Kenyon (Clarksville, MD / River Hill) highlighted the offense in game one for Cairn with a triple in the sixth inning. Classmate
Kacey Wees (Irwin, PA / Hempfield) tossed six innings in the circle, scattering eight hits, four runs (three earned) and striking out three.
In game two, SEU plated a pair of runs in the first inning off of a two-RBI double to take a 2-0 lead. An Eagle run in the third advanced the lead to 3-0, before they blew the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
The Highlanders will be back on the field on Saturday, April 29 when they return home for their final conference doubleheader against Rosemont College on Senior Day inside the Stillman Complex at 3 p.m.
