NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Cairn University softball team lost, 14-9, in a single, seven-inning contest on the road at junior college foe Bucks County Community College on Tuesday afternoon, ending Cairn's three-game win streak.
Cairn (4-8) struck first in the opening frame, plating four runs highlighted by a two-RBI knock by senior
Jenna Kenyon (Clarksville, MD / River Hill). The Highlanders held a commanding 7-2 lead after two and a half innings. However, Bucks County (2-5) exploded in the bottom of the third, opening up a six-spot in the inning to take its first lead of the contest at 8-7. The Centurions added a run in the fourth, and posted a three-run fifth frame to hold a comfortable lead (13-7) after five. Sophomore
Abbi Heacock (Media, PA / Delco Christian) tried to get Cairn back into it, launching a two-run homer (her first career home run) over the fence in left-center to cut the deficit to four (13-9), but the Highlander bats stalled in the seventh and final inning.
Four Highlanders posted multi-hit efforts in the contest, led by Kenyon and Heacock, each with two hits and three RBIs. Freshman
Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty Online) added a pair of base knocks and scored a team-high three runs, while freshman
Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton) added two hits, including a double.
The Highlanders will be back on the field on Thursday, March 30 when they travel to Penn State Schuylkill for a non-conference doubleheader with the Lions starting at 3:30 p.m.
