Men’s Lacrosse: Highlanders’ Win Streak Ends on the Road at Del Val

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Cairn University men's lacrosse team saw their two-game win streak come to a close following an 11-5 defeat on the road at Delaware Valley University in their final non-conference contest of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams traded goals in the first period and were deadlocked at two-all after one. Cairn (2-5) took the lead early in the second frame when junior Charles Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy) converted a man-up opportunity to give the Highlanders a 3-2 lead. Del Val (4-5) responded accordingly, scoring the next five goals of the contest before Highlanders freshman Tyler Orozco (Edgemere, MD / FCA) broke the Aggies scoring run in the third quarter. Del Val put the contest away with four unanswered goals from that point.

Five different Highlanders found the back of the cage on the day, led by Cotton and junior Jonathan Balsamo (Long Island, NY / Eastport South Manor) with a goal and an assist a-piece. Orozco, and classmates Jacob Root (Bel Air, MD / C. Milton Wright) and Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) tallied the other three goals of the bout for the Highlanders. Sophomore netminder Nico Cione (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) collected a season-high 22 saves between the pipes, and scooped up a team-high four ground balls, followed by classmate Ethan Meiers (Plainsboro, NJ / West Windsor Plainsboro) with three ground balls.

The Highlanders will return to the field on Wednesday, April 12 when they embark on their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule in La Plume against Keystone College at 4 p.m.
