LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 61-46, at home against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Wilson College inside the Mason Activity Center on Saturday afternoon.
Cairn (4-16, 2-12 CSAC) grabbed a quick 8-5 lead over Wilson (14-6, 11-3 CSAC) just under four minutes in, led by four points a-piece by sophomore
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) and freshman
Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian). Wilson re-took the lead and maintained a 17-14 advantage after one. The Phoenix commanded the second and third frames of the contest, outscoring Cairn 36-14 in those two periods and boasted a 53-28 lead entering the final stanza. The Highlanders made things interesting, outscoring Wilson 18-8 in the final period, but could not erase the deficit.
Wilson out shot Cairn 41.5% (27-65) to 35.6% (21-59), while both teams matched one another in rebounding (40-40). Wilson won the game in the painted area, out producing the Highlanders 38-20 in that department.
Cairn was led by Hinson who poured in a game-high 25 points to pair with a team-high nine rebounds. Hinson was followed by Ipri and classmates
Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS) and
Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS) with six points a-piece. Sobrino added game-highs with six assists and five steals.
The Highlanders will be back on the floor on Wednesday, February 8 for the last game of their three-game home stand when they take on conference foe Clarks Summit University inside the Mason Activity Center at 6 p.m.
