Women’s Basketball: Highlanders Stopped by Falcons on the Road

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 68-55, on the road against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cedar Crest College on Wednesday evening, splitting the season series with the Falcons.

Both teams struggled to get their sets going early, as they combined for just 18 points in the opening frame. Cedar Crest (3-15, 3-13 CSAC) responded accordingly in the second quarter, putting 20 points in the frame and held a 31-18 lead over Cairn (4-19, 2-15 CSAC) at intermission. The third quarter sealed the contest for the Falcons, as they outscored Cairn 24-15 in the stanza. Despite a 22-point fourth quarter by the Highlanders, the Falcons lead held firm en-route to victory.

Cedar Crest shot 40% (28-70) from the field compared to a 36.8% (21-57) mark for Cairn. Cairn narrowly won the rebounding battle (43-42), but 25 Highlander turnovers proved to be the difference, as Cedar Crest scored 26 points off of those miscues.

Cairn was paced by sophomore Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS), who notched her second 30-10 game of the season with 30 points to pair with 12 rebounds, both game-highs. Classmate Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS) added 12 points and dished out a career-high six assists, while fellow sophomore Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS) also finished in double figures with 10 points.

The Highlanders now look to their final regular season contest on Saturday, February 18, when they take on conference adversary Keystone College inside the Mason Activity Center at 1 p.m.
