Women's Basketball: Highlanders Edged by Giants in Season Finale

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team closed conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Giants of Keystone College, 77-72 in Langhorne.
 
Cairn (4-20, 2-16 CSAC) kept things close in the first quarter, trading baskets back-and-forth with Keystone (11-14, 10-8 CSAC), keeping the Giants' lead to no more than six and closing the quarter tied at 16. Sophomore forward Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) led the way in the frame with nine points followed by sophomore guard Kailee Sobrino (Tucson, AZ / Empire HS) who had 5, including a three-pointer.
 
Keystone found their rhythm in the second quarter, pushing the lead as far as 11 (32-21) at the 4:36 mark. Sophomore guard Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS) sparked the Highlander offense, scoring seven points and knocking down a three-pointer in the closing minutes as the Highlanders closed the period only trailing by two (38-36).
 
Cairn took their first lead of the game in the third quarter with freshman guard Dreyonna Graham (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville HS) finding the scoring column. The Highlander lead was short lived as the fourth quarter began with Keystone up by three points. The final period was tightly fought, with Keystone coming out on top in the regular season finale, 77-72.
 
Cairn made the most of second chance points with 10 compared to Keystone's eight. The Highlanders shot 39.4% (26-66) from the floor and 36.4% (8-22) from behind the arc while the Giants shot 41.9% (26-62) from the floor and 35.7% (10-28) from three. Cairn shared the ball efficiently, assisting on 19 of their 26 baskets.

Hinson led the way with 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting while collecting 15 rebounds, followed by Warner with 23 points. Sobrino added 12 points in the complete game effort with a game-high 9 assists.
 
The Highlanders closed their 2022-23 season this evening, finishing with four wins and two victories in conference play.
