LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Women's Basketball team hosted the Ravens of Rosemont College in United East Skye Divisional play on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Ravens in commanding fashion, 110-37.
Cairn (7-2 / 3-1 United East Skye Division) won the tip and found junior forward
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) for a fast break layup to take the lead. Rosemont (3-8 / 2-3 United East Skye Division) responded right back and took the lead in the middle of the period, 13-12. The Raven lead lasted only 30 seconds as freshman guard
Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville HS) knocked down a pair of free throws and assisted sophomore guard Milán Bradley (Washington, D.C. / Loyola University New Orleans) for a triple. Freshman guard
Makayla Raines (Jonesboro, GA / St. Mary's Academy) made a three assisted by Quince, who made a fast break layup to close the quarter 27-19 in favor of Cairn.
Quince opened up the second quarter with a jump shot, getting the Highlander offense rolling again. As Rosemont cut the lead to eight, Hinson made the and-one layup and free throw to put the lead back to 11. Hinson struck again with a pair of free throws and jump shot, assisted by freshman guard
Kenadi Austin (San Antonio, TX / John Marshall). Quince found freshman guard
Kayden Jeselskis (Baltimore, MD / Rosedale Christian Academy) for a three followed by Raines making a three to end the half.
Raines was right back at it to open the second half with a three pointer, assisted by Hinson, and another one later, assisted by freshman forward
Audrey Elisondo (Bethesda, MD / James I O'Neill HS). Quince then found Elisondo and Hinson each for a layup. Elisondo would close the second quarter with a jump shot, Cairn up 88-35. Hinson would cap off her historic performance on the afternoon with ten points in the fourth quarter.
With the win, Cairn Women's Basketball set the program record for most points scored with 110, ten more than the previous record of 100 points set on February 22, 2006 against Lancaster Bible College). They would also set a program record for most field goals made as a team with 43, topping the 2005 record of 42. Quince also recorded a double-double, the first of her career, with career-highs in points (25), rebounds (11), and assists (9). Raines and Bradley rounded out the double digit scorers with 17 and 10 points, respectively, Raines shooting 5-8 from three point land with 5 assists. As a team, the Highlanders shot 48.9% from the floor and made an even 85% of their free throws.
