LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Women's Volleyball team hosted Wilson College for their senior day match, holding off the Phoenix, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The afternoon began with the team honoring senior setter
Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) for her numerous accomplishments throughout her career and the influence she's had on the Cairn Women's Volleyball program.
The match tipped off with a trading off of points early before Wilson (2-23 / 2-6 United East Skye Division) took a 17-14 lead. Cairn (13-9 / 5-3 United East Skye Division) looked to come back but was held off as the Phoenix took set one, 25-22. Senior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) would send 6 kills over the net in the set.
Set two saw more of the same as Wilson took a 9-7 lead. The Highlanders came back on two kills from junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School), taking the lead back at 11-9. Key errors by the Phoenix would swing the lead further for Cairn, 20-14, as the set was capped off by a kill each from freshman outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) and Conrad. Cairn evened things up taking the set 25-19.
The third frame would carry a different tone with the Highlanders going up 12-7 early by Dahn recording 3 aces as the Highlanders protected the serve. Freshman middle blocker
Rachael Banks (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School) knocked home a kill along with two Conrad aces and another kill for Peabody extending the lead to 23-12. Sophomore outside hitter
Abigail Di Sipio (East Earl, PA / Homeschool) sealed the set for Cairn, 25-13.
The fourth and final set saw the Highlanders in control, taking a 9-2 lead out of the gate featuring 4 kills from Peabody. Wilson brought the deficit back to only 15-11 but couldn't slow down the Cairn offense as the Highlanders took the match in the fourth set, 25-19.
Zepp had the spotlight performance of the match, recording a career-high 45 assists on her own senior day which helped secure 53 kills for Cairn, moving herself into 3
rd all-time in career assists with 1,875 career assists. Peabody also had a phenomenal match with 18 kills and 6 assisted blocks, tying a career-high in points (22) while Conrad had 18 and 24 digs. Dahn added 7 kills with a match-high 4 aces. Freshman middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) and Banks each had 4 block assists and a solo block along with 6 and 3 kills, respectively.
With their final regular season home match in the books, Cairn Women's Volleyball heads to Bryn Athyn on Tuesday to face the Lions at 7 p.m.
