BRYN ATHYN, PA – The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team swept the Lions of Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday night, 3-0.
Cairn (14-9 / 6-3 United East Skye Division) took control on a 4-0 rally to start Tuesday night's action and proceeded to take a 16-5 lead on two kills from freshman outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy). Senior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) took the set for the Highlanders on three kills with an ace from sophomore libero
Payton Cline (Falling Waters, WV / Heritage Academy), 25-10.
Bryn Athyn (5-16 / 5-5 United East Skye Division) took their first lead of the match in the second set, 4-2, but Cairn came right back with a pair of kills by junior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy). The Lions took the lead again 9-8 and continued to show some fight in this second frame. Another kill by Peabody and an ace from freshman middle blocker
Rachael Banks (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School) tried to put the set out of reach for Bryn Athyn as the Highlanders climbed to a 22-18 lead. The Lions fought back to tie at 24 and force play to continue. Dahn and freshman middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) would hammer home the final kills of the set, taking a 2-0 lead, 28-26. The final set was all Cairn in control, getting out to a 15-9 lead in which the Highlanders never looked back, started on two aces by Conrad. Key errors by the Lions would swing the set in favor of Cairn as the Highlanders took the set 25-21 and the match, 3-0.
Peabody led with 9 kills along with Conrad who had seven, a pair of aces, and 30 digs, setting a new program record for a 3-set match. Dahn and Thorpe added 5 and 4 kills, respectively, with a pair of block assists for Dahn. Banks also defended the net with two block assists of her own and a pair of kills. Senior setter
