United East Men's Soccer Championship Preview

LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Men's Soccer team has earned the No. 2 seed in the 2023 United East Men's Soccer Championship which kicks off on Saturday, October 28 for the bottom four seeded teams. 

THE FIELD:
    Rosemont secured the No. 1 overall seed with a victory on Wednesday night as they finished conference play with a 7-0-1 record. Cairn also went undefeated in the Skye Division, playing to a 6-0-2 record in the 2023 campaign. Both Rosemont and Cairn have byes through the Divisional First Round and will kick off their playoff runs on Monday, October 30. No. 6 Notre Dame of Maryland will travel to No. 3 Saint Elizabeth University, while No. 5 Keystone College will play at No. 4 Bryn Athyn College in the Divisional First Round on Saturday, October 28.  The lowest remaining seed will advance to the Divisional Semi-Final on Monday, October 30 to play at No. 1 Rosemont, while the highest advancing seed will play at No. 2 Cairn. Skye Division Finals will be held at the highest remaining seed on Wednesday, November 1.

OUR TEAM:
    Cairn Men's Soccer finished the regular season with a 8-5-4 record overall, again, 6-0-2 in United East Skye Division play. Junior midfielder Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.) was the top offensive threat for the Highlanders, compiling 11 goals and 4 assists on 68 shots, setting a new season high in goals scored. Beers played for the big monents with a team-high 4 game-winning goals. Junior forward Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) also had a big season for the Highlanders, scoring 9 goals and 4 assists on 51 shots. Freshman forward Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) was a top addition to the roster this year, contributing 4 goals and two assists. Junior midfielder Caleb Rudloff (Quakertown, PA / Geneva College) played a big role in the offensive midfield, the main facilitator of offensive play, tied with Beers and Brittain with a team-high 4 assists. Be on the lookout for Rudloff to be a key piece in the Highlander offense. Senior defender Joshua Smith (Attleboro, MA / Homeschool) and graduate defender Easton Shelley (Elkton, MD / Elkton High School) held the defense together as a constant presence in front of the box, stopping a multitude of would-be shots and attacks. Freshman goalkeeper Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill High School) proved himself to be an answer to the open spot in goal at the beginning of the season, collecting 40 saves and averaging only 1.35 goals against with three shutouts.

THE MATCHUP:
    Cairn will play the highest remaining seed out of the Divisional First Round matches on Saturday. Of the potential options for opponents, the Highlander went 2-0-1 with wins against Bryn Athyn and Keystone while drawing with Saint Elizabeth. Cairn Men's Soccer will host the Semi-Final matchup in Langhorne where they played to a 4-2-2 record this season at home overall and 3-0-1 inside the G. Patrick Stillman Complex against United East Conference opponents.
