Women's Volleyball: Highlanders Fall to Falcons, 3-0

ALLENTOWN, PA – The Cairn University Women's Volleyball team took on the Falcons of Cedar Crest College on Wednesday night on the road, falling to the Falcons, 3-0.
 
Cedar Crest (12-8 / 7-0 United East Skye Division) was off to a hot start, going on a 9-5 run over Cairn (12-9 / 7-0 United East Skye Division). Senior setter Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) and freshman outside hitter Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) scattered kills as the Falcons took set one, 25-15.
 
Set two saw Cedar Crest open on a 5-0 run. Junior opposite Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy) looked to stop the bleeding with two kills as the Highlander pushed back to a 10-5 deficit. The Falcons found momentum, going up on rally, 17-6. Junior outside hitter Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) collected two kills as Cairn came back 17-11. Cedar Crest then put the set out of reach on five kills as they took set 2, 25-12.
 
As Cairn looked to come back in the third set, the Highlanders put up the first three points of the frame. The Falcons matched and went ahead 4-3. Cairn battled back to take a quick lead 7-6 on two kills by Peabody and an ace courtesy of freshman middle blocker Rachael Banks (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School). Cedar Crest rallied back to a 10-7 led. The Highlanders would scatter points as the Falcons took a strong lead of 22-16. Freshman middle blocker Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent), Conrad and Banks would record the final three kills for Cairn as they fell in set three, 25-20.
 
Conrad and Peabody each had a team-high 8 kills with Conrad adding 12 digs. Thorpe and Banks each notched 4 kills and Dahn added 3 kills of her own.
 
The Highlanders return home to host the Phoenix of Wilson College on Saturday at 1 p.m. for senior day.
