CHAMBERSBURG, PA – The Cairn University Men's Soccer team finished up United East conference play on the road Wednesday afternoon, facing off against Wilson College and holding off the Phoenix 2-1 as the Highlanders came back from behind 1-0.
Wilson (3-10-3 / 1-3-3 United East Skye Division) got on the board first, putting Cairn (8-5-4 / 6-0-2 United East Skye Division) behind 1-0 in the 18
th minute. The Highlanders would battle back, tying the score in the 26
th minute on junior midfielder
Moses Beers' (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Twp.) 10
th goal of the season, assisted by junior forward
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy). Beers would strike again in the 34
th minute, assisted by junior midfielder
Chase Segool (Aston Twp., PA / Sun Valley) and graduate midfielder
Aaron Campbell (Coopersburg, PA / Upper Bucks Christian). That would be all for the scoring action as the Highlanders held off the Phoenix's 7 shots of the second half, securing the 2-1 victory.
Cairn held the advantage in shots 24-10 (11-6 on goal) on the afternoon. Beers notched two goals, the latter being the game-winner, while Brittain, Campbell, and Segool were each credited with an assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill HS) collected five saves in the complete game effort.
