LA PLUME, PA – The Cairn Women's Soccer team took on Keystone College on the road, Tuesday night, closing out regular season play on a high note as the Highlanders shutout the Giants, 7-0.
Cairn (6-5-3 / 5-2-2 United East Skye Division) was led by senior midfielder
Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) who scored out of the gate, 37 seconds into the match to give Cairn a lead early. The Highlanders would pepper the goal with 13 shots in the first half, none of which found the back of the net except Marzinke's as the Cairn defense held Keystone (3-12 / 2-7 United East Skye Division) to a single shot in the half.
The second half had a much different tone as senior midfielder
Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) was the first to score in the second frame four minutes out of the break, assisted by freshman midfielder
Paige Noble (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ / Atlantic Christian School). There would be more where that came from as graduate defender
Rachel Yoder (Telford, PA / Souderton) netted her fifth goal of the season just over a minute later (50
th), assisted by senior midfielder
Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ / Calvary Academy), as the Highlander found themselves up 3-0. Prate would score again, this time unassisted, in the 59
th minute for her sixth goal on the year. Noble followed up, assisted by Marzinke, in the 62
nd minute pushing the lead to 5-0. Marzinke put the match out of reach in the 63
rd minute, assisted by sophomore forward
Victoria Vega (Branchburg, NJ / Timothy Christian) and Lee got in on the scoring action in the 76
th minute, assisted by senior forward
Ashanley Philippe (Santiago, Dominican Republic / Santiago Christian School). The Highlanders held on to secure the 7-0 shutout win on the road.
Marzinke led the offense with 2 goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal. Prate also had two goals. Lee and Noble each recorded a goal and an assist. Yoder provided a goal as well. Vega and Philippe each had an assist. Senior goalkeeper
Isabelle Portis (Midland Park, NJ / Easter Christian High School) collected a save in 79 minutes of work in the combined shutout.
Cairn Women's Soccer await seeding for the United East Championship with the divisional first round match set for Saturday, October 28.
