LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Women's Volleyball team hosted the Ravens of Rosemont College on Saturday morning, sweeping the Ravens in straight sets, 3-0.
Cairn (12-8 / 4-2 United East Skye Division) was off to the races in set on, opening on a 7-2 run as the Highlanders rallied around freshman middle blocker
Rachael Banks' (Sturgis, SD / Sturgis Brown High School) serve which featured an ace and two kills from junior opposite
Hendryl Peabody (Bensalem, PA / Faith Baptist Christian Academy). As the Cairn lead stretched to 10-4, junior outside hitter
Caroline Conrad (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School) went on a roll of four kills to put the match out of hand 16-8. She would follow-up her attack with back-to-back aces to take the set for Cairn 25-7.
Rosemont (3-12 / 3-3 United East Skye Division) began to craft a comeback in the second frame, taking a 6-3 over the Highlanders. Cairn rallied back behind freshman outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) and her two kills taking the Highlanders up 13-7. Conrad and Peabody each found four more kills on the Rosemont side along with an ace from Banks to finish off the set 25-20.
Moving to the third set, Cairn kept the Ravens at bay early as freshman middle blocker
Georgianna Thorpe (Southampton, PA / William Tennent) has three kills and Dahn added an ace. Rosemont would make things interesting, coming back to being down only 18-12, but the Ravens would get no closer. Back-to-back aces from sophomore defensive specialist
Delaney Hollenbeck (Kingsley, PA / Lackawanna College) would put the match out of reach and Conrad sealed the victory with the match-winning kill, 25-16.
Conrad led the attack Saturday morning with 14 kills and 3 aces as well as playing her part on the defensive side, picking up 21 digs. Peabody added 11 kills along with 2 assisted blocks. Thorpe was the net defender for the match as she helped swat three Raven attacks along with 5 kills of her own. Banks and Hollenbeck each had three aces, sharing a game-high with Conrad. Olivia Zepp (Westminster, MD / Francis Scott Key) collected 33 assists for her third-consecutive 30+ assist match.
Cairn Women's Volleyball hits the road on Wednesday as they travel to Allentown, PA taking on United East Skye Division foe, Cedar Crest College at 7 p.m.
