CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 61-45, on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Wilson College on Thursday evening.
Wilson (7-4, 4-1 CSAC) took an early 12-7 lead seven minutes in, before Cairn (2-9, 0-5 CSAC) closed the first quarter with three unanswered points and trailed 14-12 after one. The contest remained close in the second, and the Phoenix extended their lead to five (27-22) at the break.
Wilson used a quick 6-0 run to start the second half to take a 33-22 lead, and led by 12 (47-35) after the third frame. Cairn stayed in the bout through the first four minutes of the fourth, trailing by 11 (51-40), but a 6-1 run by the Phoenix put away the contest.
Wilson shot 37.3% (25-67) from the field in the contest compared to a 27.5% (14-51) mark for Cairn. The Highlanders out rebounded Wilson (42-41) and posted a 70.8% (17-24) percentage from the charity stripe.
Sophomores
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) and
Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS) led the Highlanders on the evening, finishing with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Warner posted her fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds, while Hinson grabbed eight boards. Warner also dished out a team-high three assists and grabbed a team-high four steals.
The Highlanders will return to conference play on Saturday, January 7 when they travel to Clarks Summit University for a 1 p.m. tip.
