Women’s Basketball: Highlanders Topped by Defending CSAC Champion, Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT Pa. – The Cairn University women's basketball team lost, 86-57, on the road at defending Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) champion Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon.
 
Clarks Summit (6-5, 4-1 CSAC) got out to a quick 8-0 lead over Cairn (2-10, 0-6 CSAC) over the first three minutes of the contest. The Defenders led by 10 (20-10) after one. Clarks Summit extended its lead up to 16 (34-18) at its largest point in the first half, but the Highlanders shortened the deficit to 12 (41-29) at intermission. Cairn trailed by 16 (53-37) in the final minutes of the third stanza, but the Defenders closed out the period on a 9-2 run to put away the contest.
 
Cairn outshot the Defenders 45.5% (25-55) to 35.5% (33-93) in the tilt, while Clarks Summit held the narrow edge in the rebounding area (44-37). The Defenders won the game in the turnover department, forcing 30 Highlander miscues and scoring 28 points off of those turnovers.
 
Cairn was boosted by sophomore Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS), who poured in a game-high 25 points to pair with nine rebounds, her sixth 20+ point game of the season. Hinson was followed by classmate Tamia Warner (Ewing, NJ / Ewing HS), who added 11 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and a team-high four assists for her fifth double-double of the season. Warner also collected a game-high three blocked shots.
 
The Highlanders will be back on the floor on Tuesday, January 10 when they return to their home floor for a conference tilt with the University of Valley Forge at 7 p.m.
